In 2022, approx. X ha of fruits and berries were harvested in Ukraine; stabilizing at 2021. In general, the harvested area, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The fruit and berry harvested area peaked at X ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Fruit And Berry Exports

Exports from Ukraine

In 2022, shipments abroad of fruits and berries was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, total exports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by X% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fruit and berry exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X tons) was the main destination for fruit and berry exports from Ukraine, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, fruit and berry exports to Belarus exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Belarus amounted to X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (X% per year) and Turkey (X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for fruit and berry exported from Ukraine were Poland ($X), Belarus ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together comprising X% of total exports. The Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Moldova, Sweden, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Among the main countries of destination, Sweden, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average fruit and berry export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a temperate increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of fruits and berries, when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. Overall, imports showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fruit and berry imports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Greece (X tons) were the main suppliers of fruit and berry imports to Ukraine, with a combined X% share of total imports. Colombia, Egypt, Costa Rica, Spain, Moldova, Azerbaijan, South Africa, Italy and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
