For the fourth year in a row, Ukraine recorded decline in shipments abroad of ethanal (acetaldehyde), which decreased by X% to X kg in 2021. Over the period under review, exports faced a precipitous decline. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of ethanal (acetaldehyde) decreased by -X% to X kg for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports showed a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X kg in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ethanal imports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Latvia (X kg) constituted the largest ethanal supplier to Ukraine, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, ethanal imports from Latvia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X kg), threefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Latvia totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-X% per year) and the United States (-X% per year).

In 2021, the average ethanal import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by X% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, ethanal import price increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by X%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
