In 2022, the average meat yield in Uganda declined slightly to X kg per head, remaining constant against 2021. In general, the yield showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X%. The meat yield peaked at X kg per head in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure.
In 2022, the number of animals slaughtered for meat production in Uganda shrank modestly to X heads, almost unchanged from the year before. Over the period under review, the number of producing animals, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. The number of animals slaughtered for meat production peaked at X heads in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Meat Exports
Exports from Uganda
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of meat, when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, meat exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a modest expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Rwanda (X tons) were the main destinations of meat exports from Uganda, with a combined X% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Rwanda (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Rwanda ($X) constituted the largest markets for meat exported from Uganda worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.
Rwanda, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average meat export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Jordan ($X per ton) and Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Sudan (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Uganda
In 2022, meat imports into Uganda fell significantly to X tons, shrinking by X% on the previous year. In general, imports, however, showed noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Kenya totaled X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (X% per year) and the Netherlands (X% per year).
In value terms, Kenya ($X) constituted the largest supplier of meat to Uganda, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Kenya amounted to X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (X% per year) and Belgium (X% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average meat import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by X%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
