Overall, imports, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, drawing board imports stood at $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) was the main drawing board supplier to the United States, with a 98% share of total imports. It was followed by Portugal (X units), with a 0.3% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +10.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Portugal (-14.7% per year) and Canada (-15.9% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of slates and boards with writing or drawing surfaces to the United States, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Portugal ($X), with a 2.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +5.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Portugal (+1.4% per year) and Canada (+2.5% per year).
