The U.S. animal guts market fell modestly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -4.5% against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +7.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, animal guts exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +13.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 35%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.

In 2022, overseas purchases of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals increased by 15% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decline. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, animal guts imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Canada (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of animal guts to the United States, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, animal guts imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Mexico (X tons), with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Canada totaled +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+122.9% per year) and Mexico (+12.1% per year).

In value terms, Canada ($X), Spain ($X) and Denmark ($X) appeared to be the largest animal guts suppliers to the United States, together comprising 67% of total imports.

Spain, with a CAGR of +157.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average animal guts import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
