In value terms, the largest markets for animal guts exported from the United States were China ($X), Mexico ($X) and Japan ($X), together accounting for 77% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, China, with a CAGR of +10.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average animal guts export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.
In 2022, overseas purchases of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals increased by 15% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decline. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, animal guts imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Canada (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of animal guts to the United States, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, animal guts imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Mexico (X tons), with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Canada totaled +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+122.9% per year) and Mexico (+12.1% per year).
In value terms, Canada ($X), Spain ($X) and Denmark ($X) appeared to be the largest animal guts suppliers to the United States, together comprising 67% of total imports.
Spain, with a CAGR of +157.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average animal guts import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+15.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
