After four years of growth, the U.S. carboxylic acid market decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2020; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, carboxylic acid exports contracted to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports saw a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Canada (X tonnes), Belgium (X tonnes) and Mexico (X tonnes) were the main destinations of carboxylic acid exports from the U.S., with a combined X% share of total exports. Brazil, the Netherlands, China, India, Japan, France, Colombia, South Korea, Israel and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for carboxylic acid exported from the U.S. were Canada ($X), Belgium ($X) and Brazil ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Mexico, Germany, Japan, China, France, India, the Netherlands, South Korea, Colombia and Israel, which together accounted for a further X recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average carboxylic acid export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, surging by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Israel ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, carboxylic acid imports declined modestly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years.
