Exports from the U.S.

In 2021, overseas shipments of canned pineapples were finally on the rise to reach X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, canned pineapple exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Mexico (X tonnes), Canada (X tonnes) and Barbados (X tonnes) were the main destinations of canned pineapple exports from the United States, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Jamaica, Morocco, Peru, Libya, Trinidad and Tobago and France, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Jamaica (+X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Canada ($X) and Jamaica ($X) were the largest markets for canned pineapple exported from the United States worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Jamaica, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average canned pineapple export price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2017 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2021, the highest prices were recorded for prices to Jamaica ($X per tonne) and Trinidad and Tobago ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($X per tonne) and Libya ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.

In 2021, overseas purchases of canned pineapples increased by X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight setback. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, canned pineapple imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Thailand (X tonnes), the Philippines (X tonnes) and Indonesia (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of canned pineapple imports to the United States, together accounting for X% of total imports. Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further X 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (+X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
