In 2021, the U.S. market for bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides, when their volume decreased by -24% to X tons. In general, total exports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +65.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exports from the United States, accounting for a 38% share of total exports. Moreover, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Saudi Arabia (X tons), twofold. Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates totaled +15.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+9.6% per year) and Trinidad and Tobago (+8.2% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Canada ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exported from the United States worldwide, together comprising 46% of total exports. Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkmenistan, Singapore and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

Among the main countries of destination, Guyana, with a CAGR of +74.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+25.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.

Bromides, iodides and oxids thereof imports into the United States skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, growing by 21% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 75%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 50%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Israel (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of bromides, iodides and oxids thereof imports to the United States, together comprising 94% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Jordan (with a CAGR of +35.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest bromides, iodides and oxids thereof suppliers to the United States were Israel ($X), Jordan ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 73% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Jordan, with a CAGR of +33.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
