For the sixth consecutive year, the U.S. recorded growth in shipments abroad of alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives, which increased by X% to X tons in 2020. Over the period under review, exports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, alcohols exports rose slightly to $X in 2020. Overall, total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

South Korea (X tons) was the main destination for alcohols exports from the U.S., with a X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Canada, Turkey, Brazil, the Netherlands, India, Taiwan (Chinese) and the UK, which together accounted for a further X the main countries of destination, Turkey recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average alcohols export price amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
