Exports from the U.S.

For the sixth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in shipments abroad of alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives, which increased by X% to X tons in 2020. Overall, exports saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, alcohols exports reached $X in 2020. Over the period under review, total exports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eight years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by X% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

South Korea (X tons) was the main destination for alcohols exports from the United States, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, alcohols exports to South Korea exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Belgium (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to South Korea totaled X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (X% per year) and Belgium (X% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by X%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2020, alcohols imports into the United States surged to X tons, rising by X% against 2019 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, alcohols imports soared to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X%. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Trinidad and Tobago (X tons), Canada (X tons) and Equatorial Guinea (X tons) were the main suppliers of alcohols imports to the United States, with a combined X% share of total imports.
