Potato Market Size in Turkey

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

Exports by Country

Iraq (X tonnes), Syrian Arab Republic (X tonnes) and Georgia (X tonnes) were the main destinations of potato exports from Turkey, together accounting for X% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest markets for potato exported from Turkey were Iraq ($X), Syrian Arab Republic ($X) and Georgia ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. In 2018, the average potato export price amounted to $X per tonne, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the potato export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. In that year, the average export prices for potatoes reached their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2015 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average export prices for potatoes failed to regain its momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Turkey

Potato imports into Turkey amounted to X tonnes in 2018, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, potato imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, potato imports reached their peak figure at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, potato imports amounted to $X in 2018. Overall, potato imports, however, continue to indicate a slight deduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2018, imports failed to regain their momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2018, the Netherlands (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of potato to Turkey, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, potato imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tonnes), threefold. Syrian Arab Republic (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+X% per year) and Syrian Arab Republic (+X% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of potato to Turkey, comprising X% of total potato imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by France ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+X% per year) and Germany (+X% per year).

Over the period under review, the potato import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by X% y-o-y. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the price for Syrian Arab Republic ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
