Playing Cards Exports

Exports from Turkey

In 2022, the amount of playing cards exported from Turkey surged to X tons, with an increase of 47% on 2021. In general, exports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 946%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, playing cards exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 482%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The UK (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of playing cards exports from Turkey, together accounting for 59% of total exports. North Macedonia, Italy, Cyprus, the United States, Canada, Sweden, Serbia, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Serbia (with a CAGR of +137.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X) were the largest markets for playing cards exported from Turkey worldwide, with a combined 52% share of total exports. The United States, Italy, Cyprus, Sweden, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Canada, the Netherlands, Serbia and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

Among the main countries of destination, Serbia, with a CAGR of +117.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average playing cards export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 92%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey

In 2022, supplies from abroad of playing cards decreased by -49.6% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports saw a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 107%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, playing cards imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 109%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest playing cards supplier to Turkey, with a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, playing cards imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), threefold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at -2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-3.5% per year) and the United States (+10.5% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), Italy ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest playing cards suppliers to Turkey, with a combined 76% share of total imports. Belgium, Denmark and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

Denmark, with a CAGR of +106.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average playing cards import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 33% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
