Exports from Turkey

For the sixth year in a row, Turkey recorded growth in overseas shipments of plastic sacks and bags, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, plastic bag exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The UK (X tons) was the main destination for plastic bag exports from Turkey, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic bag exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Israel (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the UK totaled X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Israel (X% per year) and Germany (X% per year).

Spain, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average plastic bag export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey

In 2022, the amount of plastic sacks and bags imported into Turkey expanded to X tons, surging by X% compared with the year before. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic bag imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

China (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic bag imports to Turkey, with a combined X% share of total imports. Belgium, Spain, Iran, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Thailand, Egypt and Israel lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of X%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
