Photographic Paper Market Size in Turkey

After three years of decline, the Turkish photographic paper market increased by 1.3% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the market value increased by 3.6% against the previous year. Photographic paper consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Photographic Paper Exports

Exports from Turkey

In 2021, exports of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles from Turkey surged to X square meters, jumping by 80% against 2020. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 106% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, photographic paper exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 101%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Albania (X square meters), Kazakhstan (X square meters) and the Netherlands (X square meters) were the main destinations of photographic paper exports from Turkey, with a combined 48% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +1,871.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Albania ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest markets for photographic paper exported from Turkey worldwide, together comprising 51% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +1,874.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average photographic paper export price stood at $X per square meter in 2021, dropping by -6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 5.3% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Turkey

In 2021, supplies from abroad of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles was finally on the rise to reach X square meters for the first time since 2012, thus ending a eight-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt descent. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, photographic paper imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X square meters) constituted the largest photographic paper supplier to Turkey, with a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, photographic paper imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X square meters), more than tenfold. China (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Netherlands amounted to -2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-11.2% per year) and China (-11.8% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles to Turkey, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 4.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 1.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands totaled -2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-14.2% per year) and Japan (-19.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average photographic paper import price stood at $X per square meter in 2021, rising by 5.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a slight downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per square meter), while the price for China ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+14.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
