In 2022, approx. X tons of frozen carcases of pig meat were exported from Turkey; picking up by 17% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports showed a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 139% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen pork carcase exports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 150%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Malta (X tons), Liberia (X tons) and Marshall Islands (X tons) were the main destinations of frozen pork carcase exports from Turkey, with a combined 64% share of total exports. Greece, Panama, Portugal, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR and Bahamas lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +39.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for frozen pork carcase exported from Turkey were Malta ($X), Liberia ($X) and Marshall Islands ($X), with a combined 61% share of total exports. Greece, Panama, Portugal, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR and Bahamas lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Portugal, with a CAGR of +41.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average frozen pork carcase export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -6.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Turkey

In 2022, overseas purchases of frozen carcases of pig meat were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 138% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen pork carcase imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 167% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of frozen pork carcase to Turkey, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, frozen pork carcase imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Greece (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Brazil (X tons), with a 7.3% share.

From 2015 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands stood at +4.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (+15.3% per year) and Brazil (-23.3% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of frozen carcases of pig meat to Turkey, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Greece ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 5.6% share.

From 2015 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands totaled +6.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (+18.3% per year) and Brazil (-26.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average frozen pork carcase import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 12%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
