Bentonite Market Size in Turkey

In 2019, the Turkish bentonite market was finally on the rise to reach $X after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when the market value increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2019, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

Bentonite Production in Turkey

In value terms, bentonite production soared to $X in 2019 estimated in export prices. Overall, production enjoyed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2019, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2019, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of bentonite, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Turkey exports peaked at X tonnes in 2018, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, bentonite exports soared to $X in 2019. Overall, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Turkey exports peaked in 2019 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2019, India (X tonnes), distantly followed by the U.S. (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes) and China (X tonnes) were the largest exporters of bentonite, together committing X% of total exports. Slovakia (X tonnes), Azerbaijan (X tonnes), the Czech Republic (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes), Greece (X tonnes) and Cyprus (X tonnes) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Greece, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bentonite supplying countries from Turkey were the U.S. ($X), India ($X) and China ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. The Netherlands, Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2019, the bentonite export price in Turkey amounted to $X per tonne, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2007 to 2019: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 an increase of X% against the previous year. Turkey export price peaked in 2019 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2019, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while Greece ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

In 2019, supplies from abroad of bentonite decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Turkey imports peaked at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2019, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, bentonite imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2019, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tonnes), Canada (X tonnes), Indonesia (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes), Malaysia (X tonnes), Poland (X tonnes), Russia (X tonnes), Saudi Arabia (X tonnes), Thailand (X tonnes), the UK (X tonnes), Japan (X tonnes) and France (X tonnes) represented roughly X% of total imports of bentonite in 2019. Italy (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Thailand, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bentonite importing markets into Turkey were Germany ($X), Canada ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. Import Prices by Country

The bentonite import price in Turkey stood at $X per tonne in 2019, falling by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a prominent increase from 2007 to 2019: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2019 figures, bentonite import price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2015 to 2019, the growth in terms of the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per tonne), while Indonesia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
