Alumina Market Size in Turkey

In 2019, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Turkish alumina market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. In general, consumption enjoyed prominent growth. Egypt (X tonnes), Japan (X tonnes) and Thailand (X tonnes) were the main destinations of alumina exports from Turkey, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Saudi Arabia, India and Italy, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in India (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest markets for alumina exported from Turkey were Egypt ($X), Japan ($X) and Thailand ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. Hungary, Saudi Arabia, Italy and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X (+X% per year) saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Export Prices by Country

The average alumina export price stood at $X per tonne in 2019, shrinking by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2018, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to India ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey

In 2019, the amount of alumina imported into Turkey shrank markedly to X tonnes, falling by -X% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2019, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, alumina imports contracted modestly to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2007 to 2019: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve years. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2019, the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
