From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by the United Arab Emirates, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2018, together comprising X% of total exports. Spain, France, the Netherlands, the UK, Senegal, Portugal, India, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and Macedonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X terms of the main exporting countries, India recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to market size, over the period under review, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Italy increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2018. At the same time, Free Zones (+X%), Bangladesh (+X%), Turkey (+X%), Spain (+X%), Belgium (+X%), Malaysia (+X%), the UK (+X%), India (+X%) and Canada (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Free Zones emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2018. France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Netherlands (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2018, the share of Bangladesh, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Free Zones, Turkey, Malaysia and the UK increased by +X%, +X%, +X%, +X%, +X%, +X%, +X% and +X% percentage points, while the Netherlands (-X p.p.) saw their share reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
