The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, wood charcoal exports reached their peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China (X tonnes), Japan (X tonnes) and Bahrain (X tonnes) were the main destinations of wood charcoal exports from Thailand, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Australia, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Viet Nam, Taiwan, Chinese, Germany, France and China, Hong Kong SAR, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Viet Nam (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and Australia ($X) constituted the largest markets for wood charcoal exported from Thailand worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Bahrain, Viet Nam, South Korea, Germany, Taiwan, Chinese, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong SAR and France, which together accounted for a further X Nam (+X% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of exports, among the main countries of destination over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average wood charcoal export price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price indicated a resilient increase from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, wood charcoal export price increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, the average export prices for wood charcoal attained their peak level of $X per tonne, and then declined slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Viet Nam ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China, Hong Kong SAR, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Thailand

In 2018, the imports of wood charcoal into Thailand amounted to X tonnes, waning by -X% against the previous year. In general, wood charcoal imports continue to indicate a sharp slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, wood charcoal imports attained their peak figure at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2018, imports failed to regain their momentum.

In value terms, wood charcoal imports stood at $X in 2018. In general, wood charcoal imports continue to indicate an abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, wood charcoal imports reached their peak figure at $X in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2018, imports failed to regain their momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Cambodia (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of wood charcoal to Thailand, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, wood charcoal imports from Cambodia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Myanmar (X tonnes), twofold.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Cambodia stood at -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Myanmar (-X% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (-X% per year).

In value terms, Myanmar ($X), Cambodia ($X) and Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X) were the largest wood charcoal suppliers to Thailand, together comprising X% of total imports.

Lao People's Democratic Republic recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to imports, among the main suppliers over the last eleven-year period, while the other leaders experienced a decline.

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the average wood charcoal import price amounted to $X per tonne, increasing by X% against the previous year. In general, the wood charcoal import price continues to indicate remarkable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the average import prices for wood charcoal attained their peak figure at $X per tonne in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2018, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($X per tonne), while the price for Cambodia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
