Pasta And Couscous Market Size in Thailand

For the sixth year in a row, the Thai pasta and couscous market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. In general, the total consumption indicated a strong expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, consumption increased by +X% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level in 2020 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Pasta And Couscous Production in Thailand

In value terms, pasta and couscous production declined modestly to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. In general, production, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2019, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports from Thailand

In 2020, overseas shipments of stuffed pasta and couscous decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2014, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2019, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, pasta and couscous exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Cambodia (X tonnes), Myanmar (X tonnes) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tonnes) were the main destinations of pasta and couscous exports from Thailand, together accounting for X% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Myanmar, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Cambodia ($X), the U.S. ($X) and Myanmar ($X) constituted the largest markets for pasta and couscous exported from Thailand worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Myanmar saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average pasta and couscous export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2020, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs in 2020 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Israel ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cambodia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Pasta And Couscous Imports

Imports into Thailand

Pasta and couscous imports into Thailand rose sharply to X tonnes in 2020, growing by X% compared with 2019 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pasta and couscous imports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2020, South Korea (X tonnes) constituted the largest pasta and couscous supplier to Thailand, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, pasta and couscous imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tonnes), eightfold. Japan (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Korea stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+X% per year) and Japan (+X% per year).

In value terms, South Korea ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pasta and couscous to Thailand, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Japan ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value from South Korea amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+X% per year) and China (+X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the average pasta and couscous import price amounted to $X per tonne, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a moderate increase from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, pasta and couscous import price increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. The import price peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per tonne), while the price for Turkey ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
