Peanut Butter Market Size in Thailand

In 2020, the Thai peanut butter market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2010, thus ending a nine-year rising trend. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a resilient expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, consumption increased by +X% against 2010 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2019, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

Peanut Butter Production in Thailand

In value terms, peanut butter production shrank to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. In general, the total production indicated a remarkable increase from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, production increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. Peanut butter production peaked at $X in 2019, and then fell in the following year.

Exports from Thailand

Peanut butter exports from Thailand contracted remarkably to X tonnes in 2020, which is down by -X% compared with 2019 figures. Overall, exports continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2019, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, peanut butter exports reduced sharply to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2019, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

China (X tonnes), Switzerland (X tonnes) and the UK (X tonnes) were the main destinations of peanut butter exports from Thailand, together accounting for X% of total exports. Cambodia, Malaysia, India, Australia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, South Korea, Belize, Hong Kong SAR, the U.S. and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Belize, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Switzerland ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for peanut butter exported from Thailand worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Cambodia, Australia, the UK, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Hong Kong SAR, India, the U.S., South Korea, Canada and Belize, which together accounted for a further X People's Democratic Republic recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average peanut butter export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, dropping by -X% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated tangible growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, peanut butter export price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2019, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Belize ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Peanut Butter Imports

Imports into Thailand

In 2020, imports of peanut butter and prepared or preserved groundnuts into Thailand fell modestly to X tonnes, approximately reflecting 2019 figures. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, peanut butter imports expanded slightly to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, China (X tonnes) was the main supplier of peanut butter to Thailand, accounting for a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia (X tonnes), with a X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Australia (+X% per year) and the U.S. (+X% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of peanut butter to Thailand, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Australia ($X), with a X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Australia (+X% per year) and the U.S. (+X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the average peanut butter import price amounted to $X per tonne, picking up by X% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, peanut butter import price increased by +X% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the price for China ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the U.S., while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
