Overall, exports, however, showed a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 21%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-cane molasses exports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 8.2%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Malaysia (X tons) was the main destination for non-cane molasses exports from Thailand, with a 80% share of total exports. Moreover, non-cane molasses exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cambodia (X tons), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Malaysia stood at -2.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (+13.0% per year) and Norway (-68.0% per year).

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-cane molasses exports from Thailand, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cambodia ($X), with a 4.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Malaysia stood at -1.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (-1.6% per year) and Norway (-62.9% per year).

In 2021, the average non-cane molasses export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -15.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports recorded a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 61%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-cane molasses imports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 92% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
