Dried Onion Market Size in Thailand

In value terms, dried onion exports declined rapidly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Myanmar (X tonnes) was the main destination for dried onion exports from Thailand, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, dried onion exports to Myanmar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (X tonnes), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Canada (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Myanmar stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (+X% per year) and Canada (-X% per year).

In value terms, Myanmar ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for dried onion exports from Thailand, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Canada ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Australia, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Myanmar totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (-X% per year) and Australia (+X% per year).

The average dried onion export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2019, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, dried onion imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In 2020, the U.S. (X tonnes) constituted the largest dried onion supplier to Thailand, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, dried onion imports from the U.S. exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tonnes), threefold.
