Date Market Size in Thailand

The Thai date market plummeted to $X in 2021, falling by -X% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In value terms, date exports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Australia (X tons) was the main destination for date exports from Thailand, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, date exports to Australia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Myanmar (X tons), tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (-X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, purchases abroad of dates decreased by -X% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, date imports fell remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then declined sharply in the following year.
