In 2020, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Thai clove market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. In general, consumption, however, posted a perceptible increase. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2019, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, clove imports fell notably to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In 2020, Indonesia (X tonnes) constituted the largest clove supplier to Thailand, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, clove imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X tonnes), more than tenfold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Indonesia amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+X% per year) and China (-X% per year).

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per tonne), while the price for China ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
