Common Clay Exports

Exports from Thailand

For the third year in a row, Thailand recorded growth in shipments abroad of common clay, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, common clay exports reached $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Bangladesh (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main destinations of common clay exports from Thailand, together comprising X% of total exports. Malaysia, Cambodia, China and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for common clay exported from Thailand were Bangladesh ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Malaysia, Cambodia, China and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average common clay export price amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Philippines ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cambodia (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Common Clay Imports

Imports into Thailand

In 2022, supplies from abroad of common clay decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, common clay imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of common clay to Thailand, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, common clay imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (X% per year) and the United States (X% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), the United States ($X) and Ukraine ($X) were the largest common clay suppliers to Thailand, with a combined X% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Ukraine, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average common clay import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
