Sulphites Market Size in Switzerland

The Swiss sulphites market expanded remarkably to $X in 2021, increasing by 12% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 338%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sulphites exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

France (X tons) was the main destination for sulphites exports from Switzerland, with a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphites exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (X tons), fivefold. The average sulphites export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 29% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ghana (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of sulphites decreased by -2.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 9% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sulphites imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 26%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest sulphites supplier to Switzerland, accounting for a 87% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphites imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to +1.6%.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphites to Switzerland, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.
