In value terms, sulphites exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
France (X tons) was the main destination for sulphites exports from Switzerland, with a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphites exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (X tons), fivefold. Ghana (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France stood at +11.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (+148.9% per year) and Ghana (+5.9% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for sulphites exported from Switzerland were Germany ($X), South Korea ($X) and Ghana ($X), together comprising 61% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, South Korea, with a CAGR of +92.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sulphites export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 29% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 210%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ghana (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of sulphites decreased by -2.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 9% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sulphites imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 26%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest sulphites supplier to Switzerland, accounting for a 87% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphites imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), eightfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to +1.6%.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphites to Switzerland, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany was relatively modest.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average sulphites import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 26% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild decrease. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Germany stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (-0.8%).
