Peat Market Size in Switzerland

The revenue of the peat market in Switzerland amounted to $X in 2018, reducing by -X% against the previous year. These countries were followed by Qatar, Australia, the Netherlands, Colombia, the United Arab Emirates, Serbia, Argentina and Denmark, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Qatar (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for peat exported from Switzerland were Germany ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and the U.S. ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Austria, Colombia, Qatar, the Netherlands, Australia, Argentina, Serbia and Denmark, which together accounted for a further X terms of the main countries of destination, Qatar recorded the highest growth rate of exports, over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average peat export price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, waning by -X% against the previous year. In general, the peat export price, however, continues to indicate measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average export prices for peat attained their peak figure at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Switzerland

In 2018, the amount of peat imported into Switzerland totaled X tonnes, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, peat imports continue to indicate a deep decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, peat imports attained their peak figure at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, peat imports amounted to $X in 2018. In general, peat imports continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, peat imports attained their peak figure at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Germany (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of peat to Switzerland, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, peat imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tonnes), sevenfold. Italy (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-X% per year) and Italy (+X% per year).
