Exports from Switzerland
In 2021, exports of desktop computers from Switzerland declined markedly to X units, falling by -15.5% against 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, posted a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 60%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, desktop computer exports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 55% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Germany (X units) was the main destination for desktop computer exports from Switzerland, with a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, desktop computer exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), more than tenfold. China (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany amounted to +8.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+127.9% per year) and China (+20.0% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for desktop computer exports from Switzerland, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with an 8.8% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 5.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany totaled +1.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+6.7% per year) and France (+9.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average desktop computer export price amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 53% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+18.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Switzerland
In 2021, approx. X units of desktop computers were imported into Switzerland; growing by 25% on 2020. Overall, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, desktop computer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +63.9% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 23%. China (X units), Germany (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main suppliers of desktop computer imports to Switzerland, together accounting for 76% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in China (with a CAGR of +42.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of desktop computer to Switzerland, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at +7.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+42.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (+13.5% per year).

In 2021, the average desktop computer import price amounted to $X per unit, declining by -7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
