Melon exports from Sweden skyrocketed to X tonnes in 2021, with an increase of X% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, melon exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tonnes), Denmark (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main destinations of melon exports from Sweden, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain and Finland, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Spain (+X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Denmark ($X) remains the key foreign market for melon exports from Sweden, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the Netherlands ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with an X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Denmark was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+X% per year) and Germany (-X% per year).

In 2021, the average melon export price amounted to $X per tonne, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Sweden
In 2021, overseas purchases of melons decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the fourth year in a row after six years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, melon imports rose to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Spain (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of melon imports to Sweden, together accounting for X% of total imports. These countries were followed by Brazil, Denmark and Turkey, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Brazil (+X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest melon suppliers to Sweden were Spain ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising X% of total imports. Denmark, Brazil and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X the main suppliers, Brazil, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average melon import price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the price for Brazil ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
