In 2022, the Sri Lankan toy market decreased by X% to $X, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Toy Exports

Exports from Sri Lanka

In 2022, after three years of decline, there was growth in overseas shipments of dolls and toys, when their volume increased by X% to X tons. Overall, exports recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, toy exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

India (X tons) was the main destination for toy exports from Sri Lanka, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, toy exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to India amounted to X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (X% per year) and the United States (X% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X), India ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest markets for toy exported from Sri Lanka worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, toy imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a pronounced increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X tons) was the main supplier of toy to Sri Lanka, accounting for a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), with a X% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (X% per year) and Indonesia (X% per year).
