The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -X% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In general, total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -X% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main destinations of coconut exports from Sri Lanka, together accounting for X% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Canada (with a CAGR of +X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Pakistan ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Canada ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for coconut exported from Sri Lanka worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports.

From 2020 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Sri Lanka
In 2021, purchases abroad of coconuts increased by X% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, coconut imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump.
