Imports into Sri Lanka

In 2022, overseas purchases of apples decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the sixth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports faced a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apple imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of apple imports to Sri Lanka, together accounting for X% of total imports. Italy, Turkey, the United States and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
