Tea Market Size in Spain

The revenue of the tea market in Spain amounted to $X in 2018, coming down by -X% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, tea consumption, however, continues to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. In 2018, the amount of tea exported from Spain totaled X tonnes, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, tea exports continue to indicate a deep decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, tea exports attained their maximum at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

In value terms, tea exports totaled $X in 2018. Overall, tea exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, tea exports reached their peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Portugal (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and Saudi Arabia (X tonnes) were the main destinations of tea exports from Spain, together accounting for X% of total exports. The U.S., Italy, the UK, Singapore, Costa Rica and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Singapore, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), France ($X) and Portugal ($X) were the largest markets for tea exported from Spain worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. Italy, the UK, the U.S., Germany, Singapore and Costa Rica lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X the main countries of destination, the UK experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to exports, over the last eleven-year period, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2018, the average tea export price amounted to $X per tonne, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price indicated notable growth from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, tea export price decreased by -X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average export prices for tea attained their maximum at $X per tonne in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2018, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Costa Rica ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Spain

In 2018, the imports of tea into Spain totaled X tonnes, falling by -X% against the previous year. Overall, tea imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, tea imports stood at $X in 2018. In general, the total imports indicated strong growth from 2007 to 2018: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, tea imports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Viet Nam, the UK, France, Argentina, Belgium, Poland, Hungary and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tea to Spain, comprising X% of total tea imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+X% per year) and the UK (-X% per year).

The average tea import price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, the tea import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
