The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 36%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, roasted coffee exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +38.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Portugal (X tons), France (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of roasted coffee exports from Spain, with a combined 60% share of total exports. Morocco, Russia, the Netherlands, the UK, Andorra, Bulgaria, Hungary, Ukraine, Germany and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +57.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Portugal ($X) remains the key foreign market for roasted coffee exports from Spain, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Portugal totaled +15.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+2.9% per year) and Italy (+12.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average roasted coffee export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 13%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Morocco (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, roasted coffee imports into Spain expanded to X tons, increasing by 2.9% on the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, roasted coffee imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 180% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
France (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) were the main suppliers of roasted coffee imports to Spain, with a combined 68% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in France (with a CAGR of +40.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of roasted coffee to Spain, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from France totaled +53.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+3.2% per year) and the Netherlands (+31.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average roasted coffee import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, roasted coffee import price increased by +29.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+20.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
