Preserved Tomato Market Size in Spain

In 2020, the Spanish preserved tomato market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (+X% per year), while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), the UK ($X) and Portugal ($X) constituted the largest markets for preserved tomato exported from Spain worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices to Portugal ($X per tonne) and France ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per tonne) and the Netherlands ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Spain

In 2020, preserved tomato imports into Spain shrank notably to X tonnes, falling by -X% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2019, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, preserved tomato imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019, and then declined sharply in the following year.

Portugal (X tonnes) and Italy (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of preserved tomato imports to Spain, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Portugal.
