In value terms, kiwi fruit exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 67%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Portugal (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of kiwi fruit exports from Spain, with a combined 68% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, Brazil, Germany, Poland, Algeria and the UK, which together accounted for a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Brazil (with a CAGR of +76.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Portugal ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) were the largest markets for kiwi fruit exported from Spain worldwide, together comprising 70% of total exports. Morocco, Brazil, Germany, Poland, Algeria and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 45% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +17.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 34%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +44.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

New Zealand (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Greece (X tons) were the main suppliers of kiwi fruit imports to Spain, with a combined 66% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +24.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest kiwi fruit suppliers to Spain were New Zealand ($X), Belgium ($X) and Italy ($X), together accounting for 63% of total imports. These countries were followed by Greece, Portugal, Chile and France, which together accounted for a further 33%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Greece, with a CAGR of +32.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
