The Spanish dolomite market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Dolomite Exports

Exports from Spain

Dolomite exports from Spain shrank modestly to X tons in 2021, remaining stable against 2020. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 84%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dolomite exports contracted slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

The UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of dolomite exports from Spain, with a combined 82% share of total exports. Germany, Portugal, Ireland and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Ireland (with a CAGR of +77.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the UK ($X) remains the key foreign market for dolomite exports from Spain, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the UK totaled +11.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (+17.0% per year) and France (+14.7% per year).

In 2021, the average dolomite export price amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 34%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of dolomite imported into Spain soared to X tons, picking up by 56% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 308%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dolomite imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 140%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest dolomite supplier to Spain, accounting for a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, dolomite imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), sevenfold. Portugal (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands stood at +16.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+21.0% per year) and Portugal (-11.9% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dolomite to Spain, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands totaled +20.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (-0.9% per year) and Portugal (-0.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average dolomite import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -7.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the price for Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
