Wine Exports

Exports in Southern Asia

In 2022, shipments abroad of wine and grape must was finally on the rise to reach X litres for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X litres. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wine exports surged to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

India (X litres) and Sri Lanka (X litres) prevails in exports structure, together constituting X% of total exports. The following exporters - Nepal (X litres), Maldives (X litres) and Pakistan (X litres) - together made up X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Maldives (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), Sri Lanka ($X) and Nepal ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total exports. Pakistan and Maldives lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wine imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to wine imports into India stood at X%. At the same time, Maldives (X%) and Sri Lanka (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Maldives emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Bhutan (X%) and Nepal (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
