In 2022, shipments abroad of u-sections of non-alloy steel decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, showed a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-alloy steel u-section exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The shipments of the one major exporters of u-sections of non-alloy steel, namely India, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the u-sections of non-alloy steel exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of India (X p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) also remains the largest non-alloy steel u-section supplier in Southern Asia.

Nepal represented the major importer of u-sections of non-alloy steel in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. Bangladesh (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by India (X%), Afghanistan (X%) and Sri Lanka (X%). Bhutan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-alloy steel u-section imports into Nepal stood at X%. At the same time, India (X%) displayed positive paces of growth.
