In 2017, India (X tonnes) was the main exporter for sweetcorn (prepared or preserved ), comprising X% of total exports. Bhutan (X tonnes) held a X% share (based on tonnes) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Bangladesh (X%) and Sri Lanka (X%).

Exports from India increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2017. At the same time, Bangladesh (+X%), Bhutan (+X%) and Sri Lanka (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest growing exporter in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2017. Sri Lanka (-X%), Bhutan (-X%), Bangladesh (-X%) and India (-X%) significantly weakened its position in terms of the global exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when the export prices increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the export prices for sweetcorn (prepared or preserved ) reached its peak figure level in 2017, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2017, the country with the highest export price was India ($X per tonne), while Bhutan ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008, when it surged by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the sweetcorn imports attained its maximum volume of X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2017, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, sweetcorn imports stood at $X in 2017. The sweetcorn imports continue to indicate a prominent growth. Over the period under review, the sweetcorn imports reached its maximum level of $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2017, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In 2017, India (X tonnes) represented the largest importer for sweetcorn (prepared or preserved ), mixed up X% of total imports. Sri Lanka (X tonnes) occupied the second position in the ranking, followed by Pakistan (X tonnes), Nepal (X tonnes) and Bangladesh (X tonnes). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports. Maldives (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Sri Lanka (+X% per year) experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the last decade, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sweetcorn Import Prices by Country in Southern Asia

In 2017, the sweetcorn import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per tonne, increasing by X% against the previous year. The sweetcorn import price continues to indicate a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009, when the import prices increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import price peaked of $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2017, it failed to regain its momentum.

Import prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest import price was Pakistan ($X per tonne), while Bangladesh ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
