Exports in Southern Asia

In 2018, the milled rice exports in Southern Asia totaled X tonnes, dropping by -X% against the previous year. In general, milled rice exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. The volume of exports peaked at X tonnes in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, milled rice exports amounted to $X in 2018. Overall, milled rice exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. Exports by Country

India was the major exporter of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice exported in Southern Asia, with the volume of exports resulting at X tonnes, which was near X% of total exports in 2018. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X tonnes), comprising a X% share of total exports.

India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2018. At the same time, Pakistan (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. In that year, the export prices for semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice reached their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2018, the growth in terms of the export prices for semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was India ($X per tonne), while Pakistan stood at $X per tonne.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India.

Imports in Southern Asia

The imports totaled X tonnes in 2018, standing approx. at the previous year. The total imports indicated temperate growth from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, milled rice imports increased by +X% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, milled rice imports attained their peak figure at X tonnes in 2017, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, milled rice imports amounted to $X in 2018. The total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2007 to 2018: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. In 2018, Bangladesh (X tonnes), distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X tonnes), Nepal (X tonnes) and Afghanistan (X tonnes) were the main importers of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice, together generating X% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Sri Lanka, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Bangladesh ($X), Sri Lanka ($X) and Nepal ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2018, together comprising X% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Sri Lanka recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to market size, over the period under review, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the milled rice import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per tonne, surging by X% against the previous year. Over the last eleven years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when the import price increased by X% y-o-y.
