Exports in Southern Asia
In 2021, overseas shipments of inks (excluding printing ink) were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate modest growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 93%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ink exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 114%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, India (X tons) was the largest exporter of inks (excluding printing ink) in Southern Asia, comprising 99% of total export.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the inks (excluding printing ink) exports, with a CAGR of +1.2% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) also remains the largest ink supplier in Southern Asia.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India amounted to +3.3%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -3% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for India.

In 2021, approx. X tons of inks (excluding printing ink) were imported in Southern Asia; with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -2.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ink imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 43%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
India represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 57% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons), together mixing up a 37% share of total imports. The following importers - Nepal (X tons) and Sri Lanka (X tons) - together made up 5.9% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +13.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported inks (excluding printing ink) in Southern Asia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 7.8% share.
In India, ink imports increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bangladesh (+14.0% per year) and Pakistan (+8.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nepal (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
