The countries with the highest volumes of cement clinker production in 2020 were India (X tonnes), Pakistan (X tonnes) and Afghanistan (X tonnes), together comprising X% of total production.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of cement clinker production, amongst the key producing countries, was attained by Pakistan, while cement clinker production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, shipments abroad of cement clinker decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2019, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, cement clinker exports dropped notably to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In 2020, Pakistan (X tonnes) was the largest exporter of cement clinker, generating X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by India (X tonnes), comprising a X% share of total exports.

Pakistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cement clinker exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2020. At the same time, India (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Pakistan (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while India saw its share reduced by -X% from 2007 to 2020, respectively.

In 2020, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of cement clinker, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2019, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, cement clinker imports declined significantly to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate pronounced growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Bangladesh was the key importer of cement clinker in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X tonnes, which was near X% of total imports in 2020. Nepal (X tonnes) occupied the second position in the ranking, followed by Sri Lanka (X tonnes) and India (X tonnes). All these countries together occupied near X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, average annual rates of growth with regard to cement clinker imports into Bangladesh stood at +X%. At the same time, Nepal (+X%), India (+X%) and Sri Lanka (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. While the share of Nepal (+X p.p.), Sri Lanka (+X p.p.) and India (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2007-2020, the share of Bangladesh (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In 2020, the cement clinker import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. from 2013 to 2020, the growth in terms of the import prices remained at a lower figure.
