In 2021, overseas shipments of windows, french windows and their frames of wood decreased by -75.5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a precipitous slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 50%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wooden window exports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports faced a significant decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Philippines represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 53% of total exports. Myanmar (X tons) held a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (12%) and Vietnam (5.6%). Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wooden window exports from the Philippines stood at -6.1%. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+17.3%) and Vietnam (+13.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +17.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Indonesia (-4.8%), Malaysia (-20.0%) and Myanmar (-34.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Philippines (+45 p.p.), Indonesia (+10 p.p.), Vietnam (+5.5 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+3.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Myanmar saw its share reduced by -65.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X) emerged as the largest wooden window supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Myanmar ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the Philippines stood at -6.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Myanmar (-30.8% per year) and Indonesia (-6.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 45% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wooden window export price increased by +66.2% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Vietnam ($X per ton) and Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, purchases abroad of windows, french windows and their frames of wood increased by 13% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wooden window imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 122% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Thailand represented the major importer of windows, french windows and their frames of wood in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 45% of total imports in 2021. Cambodia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 51% share of total imports. Vietnam (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+118.6%), Cambodia (+79.9%) and Vietnam (+14.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +118.6% from 2012-2021. The Philippines experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Cambodia (+22 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+21 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by -42.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Cambodia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported windows, french windows and their frames of wood in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 11% share.

In Cambodia, wooden window imports increased at an average annual rate of +81.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Philippines (-0.8% per year) and Thailand (-6.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 64% against the previous year. Import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wooden window import price decreased by -0.5% against 2019 indices. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
