Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, the amount of way-type unit heads for working metal exported in South-Eastern Asia declined significantly to X tons, falling by -33.7% on 2020 figures. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 85%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, way-type unit head exports shrank sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Singapore represented the key exporter of way-type unit heads for working metal in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 66% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together generating a 31% share of total exports. Indonesia (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of way-type unit heads for working metal. At the same time, the Philippines (+5.3%) and Malaysia (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest way-type unit head supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Singapore stood at -2.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+14.5% per year) and Thailand (-8.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of way-type unit heads for working metal were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 90%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, way-type unit head imports plummeted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 62%.
