Sulphur Market Size in South-Eastern Asia
For the sixth year in a row, the Southeast Asian sulphur market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, consumption showed a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the market value increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Sulphur Production in South-Eastern Asia
In value terms, sulphur production dropped to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. Overall, production saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the production volume increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Production By Country in South-Eastern Asia
The countries with the highest volumes of sulphur production in 2020 were Thailand (X tonnes), Malaysia (X tonnes) and the Philippines (X tonnes), with a combined X% share of total production.
From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in the Philippines, while sulphur production for the other leaders experienced a decline in the production figures.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2020, sulphur exports in South-Eastern Asia expanded rapidly to X tonnes, surging by X% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports enjoyed modest growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.
In value terms, sulphur exports dropped sharply to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports showed a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Indonesia was the major exporter of sulphur (sublimed or precipitated) and colloidal sulphur in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X tonnes, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. Singapore (X tonnes) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Thailand (X%) and Malaysia (X%).
Indonesia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sulphur (sublimed or precipitated) and colloidal sulphur exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2020. At the same time, Thailand (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Singapore (-X%) and Malaysia (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Indonesia (+X p.p.) and Thailand (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2007-2020, the share of Malaysia (-X p.p.) and Singapore (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest sulphur supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Thailand ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a X% share.
In Singapore, sulphur exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2007-2020. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+X% per year) and Malaysia (-X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2020, the sulphur export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per tonne, falling by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of X% year-to-year. The level of export peaked at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per tonne), while Indonesia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore, while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Sulphur Imports
Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2020, approx. X tonnes of sulphur (sublimed or precipitated) and colloidal sulphur were imported in South-Eastern Asia; shrinking by -X% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sulphur imports declined notably to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.
Imports by Country
Indonesia prevails in sulphur imports structure, recording X tonnes, which was near X% of total imports in 2020. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tonnes), making up a X% share of total imports.
From 2007 to 2020, average annual rates of growth with regard to sulphur imports into Indonesia stood at +X%. At the same time, Thailand (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. While the share of Indonesia (+X p.p.) and Thailand (+X p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sulphur (sublimed or precipitated) and colloidal sulphur in South-Eastern Asia, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Thailand ($X), with a X% share of total imports.
From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Indonesia was relatively modest.
Import Prices by Country
The sulphur import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per tonne in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per tonne), while Indonesia stood at $X per tonne.
From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand.
