Thailand (X tons) remains the largest sugar cane producing country in South-Eastern Asia, accounting for X% of total volume. Moreover, sugar cane production in Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Indonesia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Philippines (X tons), with a X% share.
In Thailand, sugar cane production remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (X% per year) and the Philippines (X% per year).
In 2022, the average sugar cane yield in South-Eastern Asia reached X tons per ha, growing by X% on the previous year. In general, the yield, however, saw a slight shrinkage. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. In value terms, sugar cane exports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) represented the largest exporter of sugar cane, mixing up X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Myanmar (X tons), constituting a X% share of total exports.
Lao People's Democratic Republic was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sugar cane exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Myanmar (X%) displayed positive paces of growth.
