Exports in South-Eastern Asia

After four years of growth, shipments abroad of semi-chemical fluting decreased by -64.1% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, semi-chemical fluting exports declined dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports faced a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 122% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Indonesia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented the key exporters of semi-chemical fluting in 2021, recording near 49% and 36% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), achieving a 13% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Indonesia (with a CAGR of +14.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Singapore ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) and Indonesia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fifth year in a row, South-Eastern Asia recorded decline in supplies from abroad of semi-chemical fluting, which decreased by -15.9% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, semi-chemical fluting imports stood at $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 15%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the Philippines (X tons) was the major importer of semi-chemical fluting, constituting 52% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), together comprising a 42% share of total imports. The following importers - Vietnam (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) - together made up 4.7% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +49.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported semi-chemical fluting in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 6.1% share.

In the Philippines, semi-chemical fluting imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (-6.1% per year) and Singapore (-5.1% per year).

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 29% against the previous year.
