Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, overseas shipments of sardines (prepared or preserved) increased by X% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preserved sardines exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild decrease. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Thailand (X tons) represented the major exporter of sardines (prepared or preserved), constituting X% of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (X%) and the Philippines (X%). Malaysia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Thailand decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (X%) and the Philippines (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Vietnam and Indonesia increased by X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest preserved sardines supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand stood at X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (X% per year) and Vietnam (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of sardines (prepared or preserved), when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, preserved sardines imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Malaysia represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded X% of total imports. Timor-Leste (X tons) and Brunei Darussalam (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
