In 2022, shipments abroad of crude petroleum oil decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the sixth consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, exports recorded a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crude oil exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Malaysia represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to X% of total exports. Brunei Darussalam (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total exports. Thailand (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Timor-Leste (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crude petroleum oil exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, crude oil imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
